Tax Free Back to School Shopping!


I know it is still summer but you might want to still plan out any major purchases, and if you have not already done so you can take advantage of tax free weekends coming up in some states.   I try to make my purchases throughout the year to avoid a big one day weekend rush.  But some stores sales may coincide with these weekends of no taxes so we can still take advantage of that!   

Alabama's Tax Free Weekend: August 5-7, 2011. The tax-free savings applies to:
·         Clothing under $100
·         School supplies under $50
·         Books under $30
·         Computers/computer equipment under $750

Connecticut's sales tax holidayAugust 21-27, 2011. These items will not be subject to state sales tax:
·         Clothing under $300 per item
·         Shoes under $300 per item

Iowa's Tax Free Weekend August 5-6, 2011. The tax-exempt  applies only to:
·         Clothing under $100
·         Shoes under $100

Louisiana's Sales Tax Holiday August 5-6, 2011. The tax-free savings applies to:
·         Purchases under $2,500
·         Excludes the purchase of taxable services, 

Florida's tax free weekend: August 12-14, 2011, will be the time to pick up clothes, shoes and other back-to-school shopping items:

·         Books, clothing, and footwear ($75 or less)
·         School supplies ($15 or less)

Maryand's Tax Free Week: August 14-20, 2011 and applies to:
·         Clothing priced at $100 or less
·         Footwear priced at $100 or less

Mississippi's tax free weekend July 29-30, 2011 and applies to the following purchases:
·         Clothing under $100
·         Shoes under $100

Missouri's Tax Free Weekend for back-to-school supplies and clothing runs from August 5-7, 2011 and applies to the following items:
·         Clothing under $100
·         School supplies under $50
·         Computer software under $350
·         Computers/computer equipment under $3,500

New Hampshire has no sales tax so if you live near this state you may want to consider driving there to make large purchases. 

New Mexico's tax free weekend is August 5-7, 2011 and is for the following items:
·         All clothing and shoes under $100
·         School supplies under $15
·         Computers under $1,000
·         Computer equipment under $500
North Carolina' Tax Free Weekend:  August 5-7, 2011 and applies to the following items:
·         Clothing, footwear, and school supplies under $100
·         Sports and recreation equipment under $50
·         Computers under $3,500
·         Computer equipment under $250
Oklahoma's Tax Free Weekend is scheduled for August 5-7, 2011. The tax-free savings applies to the following items:
·         Clothing and shoes
·         Priced under $100
South Carolina's Tax Free Weekend is August 5-7, 2011. The tax-free savings applies to the following items:
·         Clothing
·         Accessories
·         Footwear
·         School supplies
·         Computers
·         Computer equipment


Tennessee's Tax Free Weekend will take place from August 5-7, 2011, and applies to the following:
·         Clothing under $100
·         School and art supplies under $100
·         Computers under $1,500
Texas' Tax Free Weekend: The tax free weekend for general merchandise purchased in Texas is scheduled for August 19-21, 2011 and applies to the following items:
·         Clothing and footwear under $100
·         School supplies under $100
·         Backpacks under $100 for elementary and secondary students
·         Includes layaway items
Virginia School Supplies and Clothing tax exempt days are: Aug. 5-7, 2011  Applies  to:
·         Clothing and Footwear under $100
·         School Supplies under $20
