Every year museums all across the US participate in Smithsonian Magazine Free Museum Day. 

This year it is happening on September 21 and you can find a list of museums participating here. 

That is free admission to some really awesome museums! 

Once you find a museum near you download a ticket.

Tickets are only available to download until August 15, 2019,
so plan ahead!

The Museum Day Live! ticket provides free admission for two.  I enjoy taking my son to museums with this free event every year.  We sometimes get to explore museums that I typically would not attend and / or afford.   

When we visited Washington DC it was a nice surprise to find that the well known Smithsonian Museums, offer free admission every day.  In that same spirit Museum Day Live! is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket… for free.

This is a great way to fit in a FREE Homeschool field trip, or maybe cut your costs in half.

Free National Parks Entrance this Weekend!

To Celebrate National Public Lands Day,on September 26 you and your family can plan a weekend getaway this weekend!  You will find free admission or entrance to the parks and lands listed in the links below.  It is a HUGE list so  I am sure you will find one that will be with in a drive from your house.  We went to Mesa Verde one year with this free entrance and had a great day.  There are SO many to choose from.  Go out and have a fun weekend with your family...Unplug!

Free Museum Day September 26, 2015

This is always a fun day for my family.  Seems like no matter where we live are happen to be we can always find a fun adventure to see on Free Museum Day!  Last year we went to a very tiny little Rufus Porter Museum in Bridgton, Maine and it was really quite fascinating for all ages!  

This year we have a few more options to choose from and I think we will end up at a Planetarium that I have been wanting to take my son to  anyway!   It is the perfect opportunity to explore your area or expand and make it a day trip!

Go to the Smithsonian Free Museum Admission site and find your state to see what museums near you are participating.  You will have to log in or create an account (don't worry it's free!)  Then print out your ticket for admission for two.  Have fun on Saturday!

Every year our National Parks set aside some free days for us.  No entrance fees and that can be a great time to help plan your next family outing.  The freebie does not include camping fees, or other fees like for tours, but it will save a great deal when entering some of our nation's parks.  

This year celebrate Veterans Day with an outdoor adventure and gain free entrance to some of our nations national parks! Only on November 11 and if you want more information and to find a park near you check here.

Open Lighthouse Day in Maine on 9-14-13

The U.S. Coast Guard, the State of Maine and the American Lighthouse Foundation are pleased to announce the fourth annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day on September 14, 2013.

The lighthouses will be open from 9am to 3pm.   For complete details and a list of all the lighthouses go to the Maine Tourism site and check it out. I am thinking picnic.  Below are the ones I am trying to choose from:

Rockland Breakwater (Rockland)
Portland Head (Cape Elizabeth)

Fee Free Days

The National Park Service will waive admission fees on several selected dates throughout 2013.  One of those dates this year will be Aug 25, 2013!  

You will get free entrance to the parks but any extra fees like tours or camping fees are not included. i It is still a great way to save on a family day of fun!  For more info or to see other days in the future like (9-28, or 11-9) go HERE.

This is a great way to get your family out there every year and enjoy some of God's greatest creations and some of our Nations great parks!  The possibilities are endless, picnics, hiking, camping, exploring...you make the call!

Its that time again!  Wow seems like I just posted about FREE National Parks Entrance Day....time flies!  

This weekend you can gain entrance to your local National Park in your area!   June 9th is "Get Outdoors Day!"  And that spells FREE for you and your family!   Maybe a free day of family fun and adventure!  Maybe just a free picnic day in an awesome place, or maybe you can take the gang on a summer camp out!  Perfect for Staycationers!
